Crayola IDEAworks
The Creativity Exhibition, a 17,000-square-foot interactive experience, premiered at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute in early 2021. As Crayola’s first traveling exhibition, it aims to unlock and celebrate innate creativity through immersive, state-of-the-art exhibits.
Interactive Technology:
The exhibit features a wireless QuickSilver® solution by Mad Systems, simplifying logistics with a single cable connecting WiFi emitters to a compact rolling show controller. This travel-optimized audiovisual system eliminates the need for racks, bundles of cables, and manual power controls, all managed via a smart device.
Personalized Experience:
Visitors receive a keepsake RFID wristband to scan at over 30 exhibits. The wristband creates a personalized profile, tracking achievements and interactions. Participants choose an avatar and color, with the system wirelessly recording their journey and enhancing the interactive experience.
Exhibition Sections:
– IDEA Workshop: This section focuses on design-thinking skills through hands-on activities. Visitors scan their wristbands at various stations, answer questions, complete tasks, and earn badges. The system builds a detailed profile of their problem-solving and decision-making approaches.
– Colorverse®: After passing through the Color Wheel Portal, guests enter the Colorverse, a dynamic area featuring seven interactive hubs. This section uses modern technologies such as greenscreens, augmented reality, and touchscreens to tackle real-world scientific challenges and foster creativity.
Impact and Reach:
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition’s spacious design allowed for 85 socially-distanced visitors at a time. Over the next five years, it will tour more than thirteen museums, with an expected attendance of 32,000 to 50,000 visitors monthly. Crayola IDEAworks inspires children to explore and realize their creative potential.
