ARC
Installed in 2019, Mad Systems collaborated with K2 Fabrication to create the Albert Robles Center (ARC) for the Water Replenishment District in Pico Rivera, California.
This award-winning, LEED Platinum facility features a visitor center powered by the wireless version of the QuickSilver® system. With a total of nearly 50 exhibits, this facility was one of the first to feature completely digital graphics. The only graphic printed is the wallpaper! This installation was Mad Systems’ first opportunity to showcase the flexibility of QuickSilver®. Since all the graphics are displayed on a monitor or projected, languages can change as needed to accommodate visitor preferences.
An additional feature to ARC that Mad Systems contributed to was the Tasting Room. This area brings visitors to an overlook of the processing plant where water goes through the recycling process before arriving at a room featuring an intricate sculpture of copper pipes. This structure creates a maze of copper trails that leads to various brass and bronze “little fellows” ready to dispense recycled water that is safe to drink for guests.
Amongst the digital exhibits and Aquavator theater that educate visitors on water usage in their area and conservation efforts and the history of the water in the land around them, there are other hands-on interactives as well. The focal point of the visitor center is the Fate of Rain exhibit, a custom Mad Systems piece that demonstrates the water cycle by pumping water up LED lit tubes, sliding down some clouds and trickling through a rain tank onto a model combining the Los Angeles skyline and Pico Rivera.
